Lizzy was initially developed by speech pathologist, Judy Armstrong, in 2008 in response to requests from speech pathologists from around Australia who had heard of the success Judy's private programs were producing. Judy also had requests from schools, who were already using the DIPL program in the classrooms, requiring a support program, such as Lizzy, to assist individual learners to achieve success. Lizzy completely complements this school-based DIPL program and allows children with individual learning needs to be catered for. Judy's unique system of integrating traditional speech therapy techniques with holistic reading and spelling strategies to create an enhanced literacy understanding and application draws on methods and systems used by specialist teachers and clinicians around the world. While there are many programs in operation throughout Australia, Judy's integrated approach has consistently produced amazing results and it is not uncommon for students to improve their reading age by 18months-2 years in one term. Even students with major learning issues will improve at least 6 months in a 2 month term.
Those same strategies and systems have now been packaged especially with Schools and Speechies in mind to produce LIZZY - PHONOLOGICAL SKILLS DEVELOPMENT SYSTEM INTEGRATED WITH READING AND SPELLING STRATEGIES . Lizzy does not just develop phonological skills, but helps the student to learn how to use these skills as they are being developed… rather than in isolation. Lizzy contains all of the easy-to-learn spelling tricks and rules that Judy uses throughout her various programs, and sets them out in a series of staged programs that enables the speech pathologist and teacher to customise the learning plan to suit each individual's needs. |
